Interpol Created Cryptocurrency for Research

Anyone can have their own cryptocurrency.” (Bob’s Law)

Even Old Bill.

Hoe Pei Shan reports for The Straits Times “Singapore-based Interpol centre creates virtual currency to fight crime“.  I.e., they have created their own cryptocurrency, so they can study and experiment on their own network and software.

This is actually a very good idea, and has led to important understanding of technical threats in blockchain technology. Just as important, it will allow experiments, simulations, and probably “war games”, to explore scenarios and sociotechnical questions, such as the impact of regulations or alternative business models.

I would encourage this group to release as much of their system as possible for others to use as well.  Lowering the barrier to entry for this sort of research will benefit everyone.
