NASA Tensegrity Robots Getting Bigger

I’m repeating myself, but deservedly so: this is really cool.  NASA is developing “tensegrity” robots, built of sticks and strings. Simple, light, very rugged, and simply amazing to watch.

This concept is now in “Phase II”, and scaling up to the “Super Ball Bot”, which evokes just how “bouncy” this creation is. The latest video portrays the ruggedness of this design, which is certain to be useful when dropped onto a world a long way from any hope of repair.

(I want to ride in one!  This one is actually big enough to carry a mouse, no?  We’re getting there!)
